Description

Varietal:  100% Gamay Noir

Located on a steep slope of thin granite and blue stone soil, full western exposure, mid-slope, from the historical Lieu of the Côte de Brouilly, 2.2 hectares featuring 60-year-old vines. Made in the Traditional Beaujolais style of winemaking: semi-carbonic during whole harvest, 15 days of maceration with native yeasts & aged in both concrete vats and wooden tuns for 12 months.

-

Tasting Notes: Deeper, darker and plummier color than most Gamays. Explosive pine-y aromatics are clearly evident to this lovely, dark Beaujolais thanks to the blue schist in the pink granite soils where this Gamay is grown. Campari-esque savory aromatics, high acid and bright crunch makes this Duport Beaujolais the most sippable of his bottlings.

About Julien DuPort: Although his parents never made wine, Julien Duport’s uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather all did, and Julien knew from age four he was destined to become a vigneron. Just as he finished his schooling in 2003, the local bulk grape market collapsed, so Julien took over the farming of his family parcels.

After two decades of honing his craft, Julien now has a total of 6.5 hectares under protection and has returned to many of the old methods of his grandfather : plowing by horse and hand plow, fermenting in cement tanks using only native wild yeasts and without SO2, doing a long élevage in neutral barrels and large foudres, and then bottling without any filtration or fining.
