Tasting Notes: Dark red cherry, leather, spice, rose petal, dried herbs and wild flowers all grace this nuanced Chianti Classico. Also present are subtle aromas of sliced strawberries and cherries with some orange peel follow through to a medium body with succulent tannins and a bright and tangy finish. Lovely energy in this one. So good now, and the youthful juiciness has the energy to carry this over the next eight or so years.

About Tenuta Fontodi: Fontodi's vineyards carry a long, rich winemaking history that dates back to the Roman Empire. Tenuta Fontodi is Chianti's class act: Purchased by Dino Manetti in 1968, the estate is now run by Dino, his youngest son Gioivanni, with esteemed winemaker Franco Barnabei also hired as a consultant to transform Fontodi and improve the estate and it's portfolio into one of Tuscany's best by maintaining tradition when updating equipment.

Winemaking in the timeless land of Chianti Classico dates back to the 8th century, and the term "Chianti" was applied to wine as far back as 1398: Tenuta Fontodi is one of many existing estates that can trace their lineage back to these historic times.

Fontodi is an all-time favorite of any Tuscan wine enthusiast. In the 17 published editions of Gambero Rosso, Italy's acclaimed wine rating guide, this Tuscan estate has won the coveted Tre Bicchieri (Three Glasses) award 13 times. And like the other greats of Chianti Classico (Felsina, Querciabella, Castell'in Villa...), they did it by revealing the true essence of the Sangiovese grape and the local terroir. ; in fact, the new cantina works entirely on the gravity principle.
