Description

Varietal:  100% Grenache Blanc

Sourced from 2 high-altitude vineyards: bush vines from Piekenierskloof and a vineyard grown on schist. Whole-bunch pressed and transferred without settling straight to 2 concrete eggs for "full-on dry ferment" and maturation. Bottled early after only 8 months to preserve the freshness.

Tasting Notes: Stony and intense, with flavors of green olive, lime and aniseed, crunchy acidity and a lingering finish. A hint of flinty reduction before peach, apricot and pineapple. Rich and concentrated on the palate with tangy acidity and a savory finish. Great depth of flavor with more texture than previous years.

About Donovan Rall: One of Swartland's original "garagista" producers, Donovan Rall is a key figure in South Africa's explosive New Wave movement and produces some of the country's most highly sought-after wines. Donovan founded his boutique label in 2008, finding inspiration in the Mediterranean varietals thriving in the Swartland after traveling the globe to hone his craft.

Rall's vision to create wines reflecting the unique terroir of South Africa focuses on low-intervention, small-batch winemaking that uses fruit from some of the oldest, most distinctive vineyards in Swartland and Stellenbosch. The production is intentionally limited, never exceeding 1000 cases, making these wines as rare as they are exceptional.
