Description

Varietal: 100% Chenin Blanc

Sourced from a vineyard Riebeeksrivier and a low-yield vineyard in Kasteelberg that provides a unique tannin only found on that area's schist soil. Matured in old French oak barrels for 10 months before racked and bottled with minimal filtration.

Tasting Notes: On the nose, notes of yellow fruit, citrus and hay. The rich palate of dense fruit features peach, orange, and hints of ginger, backed by coated acidity and a pithy, almost bitter finish typical of old-vine Chenin from Swartland.

About Donovan Rall: One of Swartland's original "garagista" producers, Donovan Rall is a key figure in South Africa's explosive New Wave movement and produces some of the country's most highly sought-after wines. Donovan founded his boutique label in 2008, finding inspiration in the Mediterranean varietals thriving in the Swartland after traveling the globe to hone his craft.

Rall's vision to create wines reflecting the unique terroir of South Africa focuses on low-intervention, small-batch winemaking that uses fruit from some of the oldest, most distinctive vineyards in Swartland and Stellenbosch. The production is intentionally limited, never exceeding 1000 cases, making these wines as rare as they are exceptional.
