Eva Fricke Rheingau Dry Riesling 2023
Rheingau, Germany

Eva Fricke did not fall into winemaking by way of family lineage or luck. Her determination, precision, and trust in nature allowed her to work her way up the ladder in one of Germany’s tightest-knit winemaking regions. Her lineup of Rieslings are consistently celebrated as unique triangulations of acid, sugar and salt with remarkable palate weight and texture.

WoW Factor: Eva made her way to the Rheingau to study at Geisenheim University before honing her winemaking skills around the world, from Australia to Bordeaux (Château Cissac in Haut-Médoc) to Ribera del Duero (Pingus).

Varietal: 100% Riesling – a blend from several Rheingau sites including the second selection from Seligmacher, Schlossberg and Krone. Fermented in tank and aged 6 months on lees before bottling.

Tasting Notes: The 2023 Rheingau is clear, pure, fresh and finely flinty on the nose. Intense, dense and saline on the palate, this is a full-bodied, crystalline and persistently saline Riesling that is analytically dry but pretty rich and, luckily, also vital due to its complexity and drive on the long, mineral finish. This is a stunning Rheingau estate wine.

Birgit Eichinger Grüner Veltliner Strass 2023
Strass, Austria

Birgit Eichinger, as a winemaker, exercises great care, consistency and flair, while being deeply rooted in her homeland – the Kamp Valley. Her wines are the embodiment of elegance and strong character. She finds her inspiration and support from her husband, Christian and daughter, Gloria. Gloria also actively participates in the winery’s operations, working alongside her mother in what has been described as a “women’s power house.”

WoW Factor: Birgit is an active member of “11 Frauen und ihre Weine,” a network of eleven Austrian female winemakers who collaborate to set innovative standards in vinification.

Varietal: 100% Grüner Veltliner, hand picked in a first selection across all of the estate's Grüner Veltliner vineyards -- a true village wine! No maceration, cooled fermentation in a stainless steel tank, and 4 months maturation on the lees before bottling.

Tasting Notes: The nose is fresh and fruity. Lively acidity packed with green and yellow fruit and hints of spice on the pallet. The diverse soils of the different vineyards, such as löss, gneiss, sandstone and granite, merge into a wonderful reflection of the Strass terroir.

Steininger SEKT Zweigelt 2017
Kamptal, Austria

Head winemaker, Eva Steininger, knew since kindergarten that she wanted to take over the family winery. Her parents, Karl and Brigitta, founded Weingut Steininger in 1989 with a focus on producing high-quality Austrian sparkling wines. This Zweigelt Sekt is a unique style of dry, sparkling red wine that is a must-try for adventurous drinkers.

WoW Factor: To prepare for taking over winery operations, Eva attended the Vino-HAK (a combination of viticulture school and commercial academy) and went on to study International Business Administration.

Varietal: 100% Zweigelt from 55 hectares of estate vineyards located in Austria’s biggest wine growing village, Langenlois in the Kamptal region. The wine is produced in the traditional bottle fermentation method. The base wine ages in stainless steel, followed by second fermentation on the lees in bottle. 5.4 grams of residual sugar are left, making this a dry style of sparkling wine.

Tasting Notes: Dark red color and incredibly dense, a mature nose with plenty of cherries. The lively mousse forms an exciting contrast to the rich red fruit on the palate, including notes of cherries, plums, and herbs. Red sparkling wine - unconventional and rare but thoroughly pleasant and seductive in its dry finish.

Prinz Salm Bingen Am Rhein Spätburgunder Pinot Noir 2021
Nahe, Germany

Founded in 1200, the Prinz Salm estate is the oldest family-owned estate in Germany, cultivating 18 hectares of vineyard sites in Nahe and Rheinhessen. The estate is now on the 32nd generation of the royal family of Nahe, and is currently owned by Prince Felix zu Salm-Salm. However, it is his wife, Princess Victoria zu Salm-Salm, who largely oversees the winery operations and winemaking process.

WoW Factor: In addition to managing the daily operations of the winery, Princess Victoria is also an active leader of the Junge Union, a youth political organization in Germany, and is fluent in 5 languages.

Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir from the Johannisberg and Berg Roxheim vineyard sites. Grown in red slate soils with more than 100 days of ripening on the vine. Aged in small oak barriques for 24 months.

Tasting Notes: A lighter style of Pinot Noir with fresh acidity and some oak influence. Dark cherry dominates the nose and front palate, with dark fruits and a slight smokiness on the back end. A bright and refreshing wine that would do well with a light chill.
